33-year-old Ryan Taylor is still playing football, and at the moment he’s with Port Vale.
Ryan was very well liked at Newcastle, and he will always be remembered for that fabulous goal he scored direct from a free kick in August 2011 at the Stadium of Light.
That gave Newcastle a famous 1-0 win when we went the first 11 games without defeat before we finally lost at Manchester City 3-1.
Newcastle finally ended up 5th in the Premier League the following May.
Ryan Taylor – thanks for the memory
Ryan thinks there’s only one way to go for Newcastle with the great Rafa Benitez at the helm and that’s up.
Here’s some of what he said on nufcTV:
“If Rafa’s happy and he stays, there’s only one way the club’s going,” “I’ve heard some great things about him on the training pitch, how hard he works, behind the scenes.”
“You keep Rafa and you’re only going in one direction. “When you look at the club as a whole, they’ve got everything.”
“They just need to believe in themselves a little bit more. “Okay, it wasn’t a great transfer window but the squad is good enough to compete in the Premier League, as we’ve already seen.”
“And if they can stay in the top half this season, and keep Rafa, I’m sure they can only push on from there.”
“Hopefully they get a few more signings next season and push the club on even further. As a Newcastle fan and ex-player, that’s what you want to see.”
“I know we did manage fifth but the club as a whole has got the potential to reach the same again, if not better.”
Taylor made 106 total appearances for Newcastle with 10 goals form his time at Newcastle from January 2009 when he signed on from Wigan to the summer two years ago.
Ryan also showed he;s a battler as he recovered from two successive ACL knee injuries and he is still playing – that shows real courage and guts right there from Ryan.
Here’s that brilliant free-kick of his against Sunderland – a great memory.
