Newcastle Have Already Identified January Transfer Targets

Newcastle United have been very busy scouting new players since the summer transfer window ended in disappointment for Rafa Benitez.

Our scouts have been seen at some European ties this season as we watch potential targets for January.

Rafa was unable to sign a number of his top targets in the summer, and he said the way the club does their transfer business has to change.

So we hope it will have changed once January arrives.

The news in the Chronicle today is that we have already identified potential January transfer targets.

Sampdoria’s Dennis Praet – a target for January?

This is some of what Rafa said yesterday as reported in the Chronicle today:

“Are we working for the January transfer window? Yes, we are already working on that,”

“Like the majority of the teams, we are monitoring players and that is the main thing.”

“I am not thinking about January now, believe me, I am thinking about this game and what we have to do.”

“I was watching Liverpool against Spartak Moscow, preparing the clips and the training sessions.”

“The practical work with my players is to be sure that we have a strong team to deal with Liverpool.”

“But the other things – and again I will say, it’s experience.” “One week changes everything and we have to concentrate on that.”

It does seem that Newcastle will make an attempt to strengthen the squad (significantly?) in January.

And it will be worth our while to do that with every league position being worth around £3M when you look at last May’s allocation of the TV rights money to the Premier League clubs.

It would be great if we can finish this season with three successive wins, as we did last season.

That would net us a lot of extra TV rights money – for Rafa to spend next summer.
