Not Clear If This Player Has Been Brought In From The Cold

Jack Colback, Rolando Aarons, Henri Saivet and Dwight Gayle all played for the U23 side on Monday night against Wolves when we lost 1-0, and the team didn’t play particularly well.

And after the game, U23 manager Peter Beardsley was complimentary of the play of both Jack Colback and Henri Saivet – both central midfield players.

Both have been squeezed out by Rafa who wanted both of them sold last summer.

And Jack Colback is still playing with the U23 side and not with the first team squad.

This is what Peter Beardsley said after the game on the Newcastle web-site:

“For the last 30 minutes Jack and Henri could not have done any more,” he told the Chronicle.

“All we ask is that they’re a good example, as Jonjo was two weeks ago.”

“That is what we look for from them. They were probably the big pluses where the younger ones are feeling frustrated.”

“I asked both Jack and Henri if they wanted to come off but they wanted to stay on.”

Saivet played quite well in the 3-2 defeat against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup last month, and the four fringe players were playing on Monday to give them some match practice.

But we don’t think Jack will get any chance under Rafa this year in the first team although the fact he played could maybe raise expectations that Rafa may bring him in from the cold.

Over the summer the two men fell out, and Rafa told Jack he would not play for him in the first team this season.

Hopefully, for the sake of Jack and for Newcastle Jack will leave Newcastle on loan or permanently in January and start playing first team games again.

Rafa can be stubborn when he wants to be.
