We are not sure what the makeup of the Board is now – other than both Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley run the club for owner Mike Ashley.

While we did well to get Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo into the club last week for around £15M initially, Rafa is frustrated again as Newcastle have gone after more targets recently but have not been successful.

He’s still frustrated

Bob Moncur was of course captain of Newcastle United when we last won a trophy at Newcastle back in 1969 (The Inter-City Fairs Cup) when I was still a young lad and Bob has freely admitted today that Rafa is frustrated in this transfer window.

This is what Bob has said to the BBC as reported in the Shields Gazette today:

“I think Rafa’s frustrated – there’s no doubt about that,”

“But I think at this time of the season – the next two or three weeks – things might change a little bit and there will be more movement.”

“He’s a good manager with a great record, and I think if anybody’s going to bring us back to where we should be – competing at the very top.”

“Rafa’s the man.”

Rafa Benitez is the 7/2 bookmakers’ favorite on the sack race website to be the next (first) Premier League manager to leave his post in the coming season.

That’s a huge surprise to us and we would be shocked if Newcastle struggled this season against relegation – but that’s why we must bring in some very good players for Rafa this summer.

Fighting against relegation next season would be too much for a number of us older veteran fans – my heart just wouldn’t be able to take it.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

A note about grammar – we will now refer to Newcastle and Newcastle United in the singular – so we will say Newcastle is interested in this player rather than Newcastle are interested in this player – it’s grammatically correct – it’s just never sounded right to me.

That’s the end of the English lesson for today.
