I hear being a model is not easy. The constant pressure, the stiff competition from others who want it just as bad as you do and let us not forget that getting noticed alone is hard enough as it is.

In today’s article, we look at the men who did not let this throw them off their waggons. They charged on and woke up every day with passion and determination to be better and today they are the most popular African male models in the industry.

1.SACHA M’BAYE

Sacha M’Baye of Senegalese descent was discovered as a model at 17. Since then he has been signed to Select (London), Why Not (Milan) and New Madison (Paris).He has modelled for Burberry, Gap, American Eagle, Stone Island, GQ Style and has been seen at Calvin Klein Fashion Show. Today, he is one of the most sought after male models in the fashion industry.

2. YASSINE RAHAL

26-year-old Yassine Rahal was discovered in Paris, France. With his Moroccan background and descent, his bountiful head of hair is what got him noticed and was soon signed to METROPOLITAN / M MANAGEMENT in Paris, Major Model Management in New York, BOOM Models Agency in Milan, PRM Agency in London, Brooks Modeling Agency in Amsterdam, IZAIO Management in Berlin and Scout Model and Talent Agency in San Francisco. He has also worked for designers like Yohji Yamamoto, Haider Ackermann, and Tom Ford.Talk about your hair taking you places!

3. ARMANDO CABRAL

Bissau-Guinean Armando Cabral took his first steps in modelling in 2001 after being encouraged by his sister to try out the industry. His modelling career took off with the exposure he got in Portugal and he was later on signed to agencies such as Wilhelmina (New York), Elite Paris (Paris), NOLOGO Management (Milan), The Squad (London), Sight Management Studio (Barcelona), Boss Models (Cape Town), UNIQUE DENMARK (Copenhagen) and MODELWERK (Hamburg).

Since then Cabral has worked with Dior Homme, Louis Vuitton, Thierry Mugler, Calvin Klein, Dries van Noten, Michael Kors, Lacoste amongst others. Having been on many runways, magazine covers and campaigns, Cabral has even released his own shoe line of men’s footwear which is doing extremely well worldwide.

4. ADONIS BOSSO

Born in Ivory Coast and raised in Montreal, Adonis Bosso started modelling when he was only 17 years old. It isn’t hard to tell why as his creative flair for dressing and his septum piercing has always set him apart from other models in the industry. He is currently signed to agencies in New York, Milan, Paris, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Stockholm and Barcelona and has appeared in shows for Kanye West , Jeremy Scott and has featured in a Dolce & Gabbana campaign.

5. TY TAYO OGUNKOYA

Nigerian born Tayo Ogunkoya was signed to New York Models Management in 2008 and he was so good he walked the runway for the likes of Y3-Philip Lim, Versace, DKNY all in that same year. Amazing, right?

6. TIDIOU M’BAYE

Brother to Sacha M’Baye, 25-year-old Tidiou M’baye certainly has good genes. He is signed to Select Model Management in London and has fronted campaigns for the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, John Smedley, and Stone Island. He has also modelled for Calvin Klein, Versace and Christopher Raeburn.

7. SALIEU JALLOH

Originally from Sierra Leone, Salieu Jalloh was discovered on the streets of New York in 2008. Since then, the young model has sky rocketed to success, booking several jobs under Red Model Management. He has modelled for Ralph Lauren, Givenchy and Balmain and is also cross-signed to agencies in Paris, Milan and Sydney too.
