Newcastle have just announced the signing of 22 year-old Jacob Murphy from Norwich City.

Here’s what Newcastle have just put up their website about out 3rd signing of the summer:

Newcastle United are pleased to confirm the signing of England under-21 international Jacob Murphy.

The 22-year-old winger, who has joined up with the Magpies at their training camp at Carton House in Ireland, had been with Norwich City since he was a teenager and scored against Newcastle twice in Canaries colours last season. (damn it!)

Murphy has also enjoyed a handful of productive loan spells and has already played more than 100 first-team games despite his tender age.

The boyhood Newcastle United supporter has represented his country at various age groups and recently returned from the UEFA European Under-21 Championships, where he helped England to reach the semi-finals stage.

Murphy’s parents both hail from the north-east and this is what the new signing had to say after his signing:

“It was a childhood dream of mine to represent Newcastle and the opportunity is now here. I can’t wait to get started.”

Good words there from Jacob – short and sweet.

Manager Rafa Benítez added this about his 3rd new player of the summer:

“He’s a young and talented player and hopefully, he can develop even more here.”

“We hope he can show us the passion, commitment, and ability that he showed in the Championship last season.”

We are sure this lad is going to be a very popular player for Newcastle since he was so keen to play for the club – a childhood dream to play for Newcastle United – no less.

So are we going to sign his brother in January or next summer?

This is an excellent signing for Newcastle and at a decent price too.

This should help raise the spirits of fans on Tyneside and we’ll have Javier Manquillo announced as our 4th signing of the summer, either later today or tomorrow.

Give the club some credit – we are starting to make some good progress.

Now for a striker and a playmaker as the next two players through the door – after Javier.

What do you think?
