Burundian woman arrested for Malawi national ID registration

    LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police at Lingadzi in the capital Lilongwe incarcerated a 19-year old Burundian national, for allegedly attempting to register as a Malawian citizen in the ongoing national registration exercise.

    The suspect, identified as Miracle Kampile Emmanuel, was arrested on Friday afternoon at Chigoneka Registration Centre at Area 47 Sector 3, in Lilongwe.

    Lingadzi Police publicist Foster Benjamin, told The Maravi Post that the suspect, on arrival at the centre, filled the registration form before presenting the same to the officials for the registration.

    However, the registration officer, Mr. noted that the suspect was trying to cheat her way out as a native of the country and immediately reported her to the police.

    Benjamin added that Miracle was arrested and taken to Lingadzi Police Sub-Station, where she confessed of her bona fide national identity.

    “The Burundian refugee further revealed that she had stayed in the country for more than 10 years, and had no other motive behind registering as a citizen of the country. She is expected to appear in court once investigations are concluded,” Benjamin said.
