We need to some good news in the transfer market with Geordie fans trying to be as patient as they can – but with only one new player signed that adds to last season’s squad – Florian Lejeune – it’s not easy.

But there’s some good news coming from our pursuit of Jacob Murphy – Jacob seems to have already turned down another club because he wants to move to Newcastle United.

Press Association is reporting that Newcastle have today opened fresh negotiations for Jacob but that the two clubs are still way apart in terms of the valuation.

Here’s a positive tweet from Lee Ryder today:

This is the report from PA today about Jacob Murphy:

Newcastle are attempting to thrash out a deal with Norwich for England Under-21 international Jacob Murphy.

Press Association Sport understands fresh discussions were due to take place on Thursday with the Magpies having failed in an earlier bid to sign the winger.

It is understood the player has indicated his willingness to hear what Newcastle have to say as manager Rafael Benitez attempts to secure a third summer signing, but that the two clubs have markedly different valuations.

Maybe Newcastle can agree to an upfront fee of say £10M in cool cash – and then have some add-ons – should Jacob prove to be a big success on Tyneside.

That would mean we pay those bonuses later and it would be worth it to us if he does very well at Newcastle.

We really hope Newcastle can make a breakthrough and sign Murphy for Newcastle before the week is out.

It’s fairly obvious he would be a popular signing with Newcastle fans and he’s a good young player, although he is still untested at the highest levels.

With Rafa coaching him, this lad could become a full England International down the road.

And one last thing here’s Jacob and his twin Josh in Newcastle strips some 22 years ago – circa 1995

Now here’s the question – which one is Jacob?
