DOWA-(MaraviPost)-Forty-one-year old Tsanzo Mbewu is under Dowa police station custody for allegedly murdering a 75 old man.
The victim identified as Masiye Maritchi, met his fate on Sunday at Mtande Village, Traditional Authoulity (T.A.) Msakambewa in the district.
Dowa police publicist Richard Kaponda, told The Maravi Post that the suspect committed the crime when he was selling goat meat at a local bar within the village.
Kaponda said after the deceased came and bought some meat from the suspect, he later asked Mbewu to keep the meat that Maritchi to correct later when going home.
The police publicist added that the deceased was surprised to learn that the meat was found with Mbewu.
The suspect told the deceased that the meat has already been taken by his grandson, a thing that did not please him.
A quarrel erupted and the suspect hit the deceased on the forehead by using his hand, the deceased hit the wall of a nearby house, and lost consciousness.
Kaponda added that the deceased was taken to Mtengowathenga Mission Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“Postmortem conducted at Mtengowathenga mission Hospital, indicates that death was due to haemorrhage, the result of injury to the brain (medulla oblongata).
“The suspect will be taken to court soon after the completion of the investigations,” said Kaponda.
The suspect comes from Chatama Village. The deceased hailed from Mtande Village, all from Traditional Authority (T/A) Msakambewa in Dowa district.
