Despite a stampede before kick off that claimed eight lives and left 42 injured (at the time of going to press), the two sides still dished out their best to the satisfaction of the 40 000 spectators.

The victory is Bullets’ first at the venue since the stadium was opened in January this year.

In the 18th minute, Silver goalkeeper Blessings Kameza guided a McFarlen Mgwira corner kick into his own net, gifting Bullets the lead.

But Silver pulled one back in the 75th minute through Mathews Sibale from a rebound beating Bullets goalkeeper Rabson Chienda after Ghanaian striker Mike Tete hit the post.

Silver coach Lovemore Fazili attributed the loss to the first half red card, saying it was tough to play with one man less.

His counterpart, Elia Kananji, praised his charges for finally getting it right at Bingu National Stadium.
