Wishes for Happy Independence day

Malawi today celebrates the day we gained our independence from British rule and renamed our Country Malawi. Our History goes very far even preceding 1500 AD, as the many tribes established the Kingdom of Maravi that reached from north of what is now Nkhotakota to the Zambezi River and from Lake Malawi to the Luangwa River in what is now Zambia.

In 1961, Kamuzu Banda’s Malawi Congress Party (MCP) gained a majority in the Legislative Council elections and Hastings Kamuzu Banda became Prime Minister in 1963. The Federation was dissolved in 1963, and thus on 6 July 1964, Nyasaland became independent from British rule and renamed itself Malawi.

Thus Today we celebrate our freedom that begun on 6 July 1964. Through it all Malawians have persevered. We have survived but hardly advanced. However today we should celebrate freedom! Hope your Day of Freedom is filled with family, friends and much happiness.

Now as you celebrate our independence day you know the story of The Maravi Post. A name born 1500 AD from the aspirations of the Bantu people who settled in this land.

They might call us many names, among them world’s least-developed country. However we forge on with determination with the hope for a better future.

Today we celebrate our independence as a united and determined people. Together Today in Unison we say Happy Independence day.

From the Maravi Post team, we wish our country Happy Independence day.
