Newcastle Goalkeeper Is Attracting Lots Of Interest

The Sunday People are reporting today that Belgian powerhouse Anderlecht are interested in signing Matz Sels from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

The Belgian U21 International goalkeeper was only signed by Newcastle last summer from Gent for around £5M, but things haven’t worked out for the 25 year-old and it’s likely he could return to play back in his home country for next season.

Anderlecht have qualified for the group stage of the Champions League next season and the news is they have made an offer to sign Sels on loan for the season.

Matz is still well thought of in his home country after he had a couple of outstanding seasons for Gent before he was signed last June by Newcastle and there seems lots of interest in him from Belgium clubs.

While it’s been a disappointing season for Mats, he’s still a good goalkeeper who is learning his trade and his difficult experience in England could even help him in the future.

His attitude is first class and that will help him get his career back on track.

Matz made 14 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle United last season and he was first choice through October until Karl Darlow was given the number one goalkeeping spot on Tyneside.

Matz could leave Newcastle on loan this season or on a permanent deal, so a loan deal to a Champions League club for next term gets his wages off the Newcastle wage bill.

It also seems a great opportunity for Sels to prove himself back in his home country.

It could be a three way win-win-win situation for both clubs and for Matz himself.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Note: Emma Daubney and her daughter Tiegan are taking part in the Race for Life for Cancer Research UK on 1st July 17th at Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire.

All donations go to Cancer Research UK.

Emma’s partner Danny lost a work colleague a couple of years ago to cancer and to had to watch the effects chemotherapy had on his body and it was heart wrenching to him as his friend had terminal cancer, but doggedly kept coming to work and plodding along.

Sadly he died in hospital and Emma’s auntie also had breast cancer but luckily came through it and was giving the all clear in the end.

So the two ladies are doing a great thing in raising funds to fight this disease and there are new treatments being developed all the time.
